Canon 60D 18-200 I have been using Canon point and shoots for several years. And now, my daughter is showing an interest in photography so I decided to step up to a DSLR. I choose 60D over the Rebels because the manual settings are closer at hand with the LCD screen than they are via menu on the Rebel. I choose the 18-200 lens for it’s great flexibility.
In the little time we’ve had it, we have had a great time with it. Basic use is very straight forward, and I expect many of the advanced features are beyond most of our requirements.
This is a great first DSLR combination if you think you may be stepping up to even more advanced features (than a Rebel) in the future anyway and the extra dollars don’t break your budget.

Canon 50 1.2 I love the weight. It feels so well balanced on the 5D mkII with vertical grip. I tested this against the 85 1.2 and this won out because I could get closer to my subject. Both lenses are amazing to use. I wanted 1.2 for the DOF and 1.2 is where I like to shoot with this lens. I have experienced sharper images above 1.4, but that does not matter to me. Shooting in very low light is excellent. I manual focus in low light for the response is relatively slow. The bokah is amazing. The color rendition the lens provides is breathtaking. It is a fun lens to use. The focus is spot on, but I find I use manual focus when an eye is the focus point because recomposing the shot even a little seems to make is fall just out of the DOF. It is well built. It is rather expensive but I feel you get what you pay for. I cannot think of anything I do not like about it.

Review:
Placed between the 7D and the 550D, the Canon 60D with 18-135mm Kit is an excellent camera and lens to get started with. I bought it for video use, however I have found myself already having taken 200+ photos since it arrived this week.
The quality of the lens is nice and it’s a great working distance which goes from semi-wide to telephoto(ish). It’s not the best performer in low light but you can still get some great shots using manual focus and camera controls (ISO, Shutter Speed etc.). Overall it is a great lens for the price and in my opinion better than the 18-55mm and 55-250mm kit just because it is the one lens.
The camera itself is also really nice; solid build quality and the navigation is fast and easy to learn. The auto focus is fairly decent and fast most times and it fits my wants as a film maker nicely with its manual controls in video mode and many different frame rates and resolutions. The swivel screen is enough reason to buy this camera alone, I always find myself using it when the camera is below, or above me and the viewfinder is not an option. I can’t imagine using a DSLR without it now.
Overall this is an excellent kit and whether your starting out in photography or DSLR film making you will be pleased. I would also recommend buying some more lenses which will also help enhance your videos and photos. However do note the only difference between the 7D, 60D and 550D is to do with photography. If you only plan to use the DSLR for video, I would recommend the 550D (cheaper) and if you would like video+top notch photography go with the 7D. That’s just my basic opinion but overall I love my new camera!
